Reading lesson: silent E

Teaching how adding an E to the end of a word changes it can be a challenge.

Coupled with some handy youtube videos ( ) a simple worksheet can help give a visual representation of what is happening.

First, list the words out in one color. I chose blue in this example.

Next, have child read the word as is.

Then, in a different color, seen here in pink, add the E, one word at a time, having the child read the new word.

It can take some practice but once they feel a flow, it can be a fun game.

I used this activity with my first grader and it went very well!
